Cress Watercress
Gregory Maguire
Young rabbit Cress Watercress and her family leave the warren she has always known after Papa fails to return from a foraging trip. Mama must support Cress and baby brother Kip alone, and they move into a small basement apartment in an old oak tree. Their neighbors include Manny the field mouse, a lively squirrel family, and their owl landlord, who expects rent on time. Cress feels lonely and bristles at Mama’s protectiveness while carrying some of Mama’s worries. The family’s new neighbors eventually become people they can depend on amid adventures and danger.
