Counting Winter

A counting story moves through a snowy winter landscape as animals appear one number at a time. A red fox crosses the snow, followed by ravens, snowshoe hares, red squirrels, golden eagles, voles, musk oxen, sled dogs, owls, woodpeckers, and chickadees. Each group is introduced in a short stanza that describes how it occupies or acts within the season. The sequence concludes with twelve children greeting the arrival of spring. Scratchboard and watercolor artwork accompanies this progression from one through twelve.
