Cornbread & Poppy
Matthew Cordell, illustrated by Matthew Cordell
Cornbread prepares carefully for winter, gathering enough food to fill his cupboards. His best friend Poppy puts off foraging until snow begins to fall, when the food has already disappeared. Together, the mice set out with a wagon for Holler Mountain, where they expect danger from owls and recall that Ms. Ruthie never came back from a similar trip. On the mountain they meet a friendly owl, who leads them to food and to the cabin of the missing Ms. Ruthie.
