Beginning at sunrise near their campground, the family walks through forest and notices mosquitoes, tiny toads, hikers, a marmot, butterflies, and birds of prey. Higher up, snow, bobcat tracks, lava domes, and loose cinders mark the route. Reaching the summit brings a wide view before the family descends over the snowfield, rests by a lake, and returns through the woods.
