Caprice
Coe Booth
Twelve-year-old Caprice returns to Newark after a summer program at Ainsley International School. She loves the school and has been offered a scholarship to attend full-time, but the choice is hard because she misses her best friend Nicole and her community center. Caprice also keeps private a nonconsensual kiss at Ainsley, which brings back memories of sexual abuse by her uncle when she was younger. Her grandmother’s illness further complicates her feelings as she faces questions about trust, friendship, family, and her future.
