Samira Abdullahi wants room to express herself and dreams of becoming a poet in New York City. In her Sudanese American Muslim community, an unfounded reputation brings strict rules from her mother. Grounded for the summer except for a weekly poetry workshop, Samira turns to an online poetry forum and begins communicating with Horus, a popular poet whose attention feels meaningful. Her workshop instructor warns that Horus is an adult with a reputation for being untrustworthy. Even as he becomes more demanding, Samira struggles to end the relationship.
