Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope

Penelope knows he is a boy and wants the people around him to recognize him that way. He enjoys skateboarding, karate, math, science, and imagining himself as a ninja, and he hopes to wear clothing and a haircut that feel right to him. Being seen as a girl leaves him angry and frustrated. When he tells his mother, she helps him share this part of himself with their family, classmates, and school principal.
