Boney
Cary Fagan, illustrated by Dasha Tolstikova
During a walk in the woods with her father and dog, Annabelle finds an animal bone and wonders whether it came from a deer, bear, or wolf. Once it is cleaned, she names it Boney, adds a ribbon, and includes it in her day at home and at the park. That night she dreams of running with animals. The next morning, sad and unable to explain why, Annabelle buries Boney in a hole her dog has dug, with help from a neighbor friend.
