In fifth-century-B.C.E. Greece, Melisto and Rhaskos live very different lives: she is the daughter of a wealthy Athenian family, while he is a Thracian slave in Thessaly. Melisto longs for her mother’s love and becomes a child priestess of Artemis. Rhaskos is separated from his mother when she is sold and finds solace in drawing horses. Though they have not met, tragedy connects their fates.
