Almost American Girl

Chuna has grown up in Seoul with her single mother, the two closely bound to one another. A trip to Huntsville, Alabama, becomes a permanent move when her mother announces she will marry the Korean immigrant they are visiting. Chuna enters a mostly white school without language support and faces isolation and bullying, while her stepfamily is unwelcoming. Drawing comics becomes an outlet. In a comics class, she meets Jessica, and later, after moving north, takes the name Robin and finds Korean American friends at a more diverse high school.
