Her grandmother calls her a promise, a description Shelly does not understand when she is young. She is chosen to represent Jamaica at the 2008 Olympics and later competes in three Olympics, earns six Olympic medals, and sets women’s track records. As an adult, she comes to understand the promise she represents to her family, supporters, nation, and herself.
