Agnes at the End of the World

Red Creek is home to Agnes, a sixteen-year-old living with her family inside a secluded Christian cult led by the Prophet. She looks after five younger siblings and secretly sees Matilda, a nurse from outside the group, every month so her brother Ezekiel can get insulin for type 1 diabetes. When the Prophet insists that Agnes marry a church Patriarch, Ezekiel’s access to the medicine is at risk. Amid reports of a pandemic beyond Red Creek, the Prophet brings in an infected dog, and illness then spreads through the community. Concluding that he has lied, Agnes sets out to escape with Ezekiel.
