A Walk in the Woods
Nikki Grimes
A week after his father dies, a Black boy finds a map in an envelope his father left behind. It marks a place in the woods they had shared. Though reluctant to go there alone, he follows the route and encounters wildlife, a fireplace remnant, and a box containing his father’s animal drawings and poems. A note invites him to choose whether to finish the stories and to make his own.
