A Thousand White Butterflies
Jessica Betancourt-Perez, Karen Lynn Williams
After moving from Colombia with her mother and grandmother, Isabella prepares to begin school in the United States while her father remains in Colombia awaiting immigration papers. A snowstorm closes the school on her planned first day. Although she has never seen snow, Isabella compares it to a thousand white butterflies. Outside, she meets another girl making snow angels; the two play together despite not sharing the same language. By the end, Isabella has a new friend as school approaches.
