A Season of Daring Greatly

Eighteen-year-old high-school pitcher Jill Cafferty becomes the first woman selected by a major-league baseball team. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round, she joins the organization’s minor-league team in Pomeroy, New York. Teammates and others respond in different ways: some welcome her, some are hostile, and others wait to see her performance. Jill encounters sexism both on and off the field, while support comes from her family, friends, catcher, and team manager.
