Will on the Inside
Andrew Eliopulos
Seventh grader Will loves playing center midfield on his soccer team, but a Crohn’s disease flare-up keeps him off the field. Wanting to return, he hides continuing symptoms and fatigue from his parents and doctor. At school, he also objects to a teammate’s homophobic taunts of Griffin, a classmate he begins spending time with. Will worries that others will make assumptions about him, while his diagnosis becomes public at school and church, bringing anger and anxiety.
