Who Will Bell the Cat?

In this expanded retelling of the “Belling the Cat” fable, barn mice decide that a bell on the cat’s collar would warn them when she approaches. Working together, they gather materials and make a collar, but putting it on the cat proves difficult. After two carefully arranged attempts fail, a young girl from a newly arrived family helps them by chance. Detailed paintings reveal at the end that the human family is African American.
