This nonfiction book considers scientific, technological, legal, and policy questions raised by exploring and using space. It explains the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which sets a framework for nations’ conduct in space and says that planets cannot be owned. The book also examines matters the treaty does not fully address, including lunar material, conflicts among astronauts, private companies sending civilians into space, space debris, tourism, and the Artemis and Gateway programs.
