Where You See Yourself
Claire Forrest
Effie Galanos is a Minneapolis high school senior with cerebral palsy who uses a wheelchair and hopes to attend university in New York City. She wants to demonstrate to her parents that she can advocate for herself, but her school repeatedly creates barriers, from taking away an assigned locker to leaving only an inaccessible exit open at lunch. Effie also works with student-council member Wilder on a beautification project designed to welcome physically disabled students. A campus visit reveals further accessibility problems.
