Where the Heart Is

Rachel turns thirteen on the first day of summer, shortly before eighth grade. Her family is in financial crisis and faces foreclosure on their home. Over the summer, Rachel struggles with friendships, social class, and her sexual identity while trying to form a clearer sense of herself. The story follows a family confronting the possible loss of home alongside Rachel’s difficult changes.
