When Can We Go Back to America? Voices of Japanese American Incarceration during World War II

This narrative history examines the World War II incarceration of Japanese and Japanese American people, including the racism and political decisions behind it. Drawing on interviews and other primary and secondary materials, it follows displacement and loss, debates over the loyalty oath, and the service and losses of Japanese American military units. It also discusses people who challenged Executive Order 9066 in court, later reparations efforts, and Nikkei solidarity with other communities after 9/11 and amid newer immigration restrictions.
