Welcome to the Cactus Hotel

A giant cactus in the Sonoran Desert becomes shelter for many animals. A Gila woodpecker makes the first hole in its arm, followed by owls, red-winged hawks, and white-winged doves. When cactus flowers bloom, bats arrive for nectar and bees pollinate the flowers. The flowers later produce fruit that javelinas eat from the ground. As these animals travel through the desert carrying seeds and pollen, they help future giant cacti grow. The book presents the cactus and its residents as a connected desert ecosystem.
