Three Keys (A Front Desk Novel)
Kelly Yang
Mia Tang and her Chinese immigrant family own the Calivista Motel in Anaheim, where Mia works at the front desk with her friend Lupe. During sixth grade, Mia learns about California’s Proposition 187, which would restrict undocumented immigrants’ access to school, health care, and other services. Racist campaign messages affect her friendships and bring immigration issues close to home when Lupe’s father is jailed. Mia organizes a school support group and challenges misinformation in her classroom.
