The Wind Rises (Alma Series)

Set in 1786, the narrative moves among Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. A young African girl’s life becomes entwined with that of a young European stowaway on a ship carrying enslaved people. Finely detailed black-and-white illustrations accompany the narrative. This is the first installment in the Alma trilogy. Its concerns include hope, perseverance, and love. Across these regions, the two young people’s lives intersect in 1786.
