The Nesting Quilt
Cathryn Falwell
Maya’s family prepares for a new baby, or “nests,” as the birds Maya watches with Nana do. Wanting to contribute, Maya takes inspiration from a finch building a nest and decides to make a fabric nest for the baby. With Nana and Mama helping, she draws a design, consults quilting books, cuts fabric squares, arranges them, and sews a quilt. When Maya’s baby brother arrives, the finished quilt is ready for him.
