The Land of Forgotten Girls

Twelve-year-old Sol and her younger sister, Ming, live with their abusive stepmother in a small Louisiana town after their father returns to the Philippines. Their late mother once told stories about adventurous Auntie Jove, but Sol now knows that aunt is imaginary. She continues telling the stories to Ming, who believes Auntie Jove will rescue them. Amid emotional abuse and economic hardship, Sol forms a new friendship and the sisters rely on stories, hope, trust, and small acts of kindness.
