The Last Fifth Grade of Emerson Elementary

Told in verse through multiple viewpoints, the book follows Emerson Elementary’s graduating fifth-grade class. Although the students have different backgrounds, they face the same urgent problem: their school may be demolished to make room for a supermarket. As they share their thoughts and feelings about school and friendship, the children unite in an effort to preserve the building. Their collective campaign shapes the class’s final year together.
