Fourth grader Summer has recently joined a foster family when a sinkhole opens in their living room. Exploring below the house, she finds a dragon guarding treasure and escapes with a glass bottle. Opening it releases an ancient witch who offers Summer three wishes. Summer remembers a warning about bottle witches and distrusts the magic, but she is also dealing with tensions between a possible new friend and the popular girls at school. Her caution and willingness to acknowledge vulnerability help her face the witch’s threat to her new home and friendship.
