The Blue Table
Chris Raschka
A blue table is the focus of a day in which a family of three prepares for another family to join them for Thanksgiving dinner. From an overhead view, objects on the table show breakfast, coffee, a newspaper, crayons, food preparation, place setting, and the meal itself. People do not appear until the end, when only hands and arms are shown. The story asks readers to follow the day’s events through the changing objects arranged on the table.
