Sunflower Seeds

After hearing about growing sunflowers, Ms. B gives every student in her kindergarten class seeds to plant. A young narrator watches seeds sprout in paper cups, develop into seedlings, and grow into a tall sunflower at home. The class considers that not every seed will grow: birds, rain, and later a deer affect the plants. The story follows the sunflower’s life cycle through buds, blooms, and the new seeds produced at summer’s end.
