A boy with a tiny elephant feels different from neighborhood children whose pets are dogs or cats. When he arrives at Pet Club Day, a sign excludes elephants, leaving him upset. On the way home, he meets a girl whose pet skunk has also been turned away. Together, the two children create another pet club where every kind of pet is invited. Their gathering eventually includes animals such as a porcupine, giraffe, bat, penguin, and narwhal.
