Caro Oresteia has spent her life carrying cargo along the river with her father and expects a future connected to its river god. When her father is arrested without cause, she is forced to move a mysterious crate in exchange for his release. Pirates pursue the shipment, prompting Caro to open it and find a young courtier from a neighboring country in political turmoil. He proves able to fight with a sword but has concealed his real identity, while Caro risks her father’s freedom to help with his mission.
