When the dog is sick, a cat agrees to take over its role in three simple stories. She is reluctant to dig because dirt could get on her fur, so she brings in a digger. Asked to fetch a stick from a lake, she jumps with her eyes shut and discovers only a puddle. Finally, she is meant to protect a sheep from a wolf, but puts the sheep in a tree and hides. The dog returns when he is well and resumes his duties.
