Sea Prayer

An illustrated work presented as a father’s letter to his son on the night before they face a hazardous crossing by sea. As his son sleeps, the father recalls their former life in Homs, Syria, before war reshaped the city into a dangerous place. The book is connected to the Syrian refugee crisis and was prompted by the death of Alan Kurdi. Dan Williams’s watercolor illustrations accompany this account of family, displacement, memory, and an uncertain journey.
