That’s Not What Happened

Three years after a mass shooting at Virgil County High School, a survivor remembers the death of her best friend, Sarah, in a bathroom stall. Sarah is widely remembered as having died while declaring her faith. The survivor knows that public account is not the whole truth. Facing the gap between what happened and the version that comforts others, she must decide whether to disclose the truth or preserve the story people have embraced about Sarah and the shooting.
