Say Her Name: Poems to Empower

Zetta Elliott’s poetry collection examines Black female experience through racism, violence, body image, misogyny, survival, self-love, sisterhood, and strength. Most poems are Elliott’s original work, while four mentor poems are by Phyllis Wheatley, Audre Lorde, Nikki Giovanni, and Lucille Clifton. Individual poems recognize Black women’s achievements and commemorate women whose lives ended in police violence or other forms of racist oppression. The collection also addresses disrespect some Black women have experienced from Black men.
