This picture-book biography tells the story of Mary Katharine Goddard, a printer whose name is the only woman’s name on the Declaration of Independence. Educated at home in reading and mathematics, she later takes over her brother’s printing shop and publishes newspapers, essays, and posters. During the American Revolution, she prints news supporting the independence effort despite the danger of being charged with treason. In 1776, she sets the type and prints the Declaration for distribution.
