Rats to the Rescue: The Unlikely Heroes Making Cambodia Safe

Malen grows up in Cambodia knowing that landmines from a past war remain hidden in many places. Determined to become a deminer despite warnings about the work, she first learns to locate mines with a metal detector. A more efficient approach arrives with giant African pouched rats from Tanzania. Light enough to cross mines without detonating them, the trained rats search marked ground for TNT. One rat, Magawa, proves especially successful at clearing fields.
