When Jude’s best friend Maggie’s death is ruled a suicide, Jude cannot accept that conclusion and investigates Maggie’s final hours. Maggie, a Chinese American girl who lived in a Los Angeles mansion and loved old Hollywood, had been the center of a diverse group of young people. Jude questions what each person did on the night Maggie died, including her not-quite boyfriend Joey and surfers Hank and Effie. The search also brings Jude’s own trust issues and the differences between Maggie’s life and hers into view.
