Orris and Timble: Lost and Found (Orris and Timble series)

Orris, a rat, and Timble, an owl, share a nightly routine in the barn: Timble visits while Orris tells stories. When Timble does not arrive one evening, Orris fears that their friendship has ended and begins to doubt it. Timble eventually returns with an explanation and a story about an owl who became lost. As Orris hides in hurt and resentment, Timble patiently draws his friend back out.
