On a winter night, a flock of sheep learns from a goat that their shepherds have gone to see a remarkable newborn said to be the world’s savior. The sheep, each distinguished by an absurd personal trait, decide not to be left behind. Their nighttime trek repeatedly turns back for sheep who lag behind. Other animals offer increasingly odd details about the baby’s birthplace and explain that visitors should bring gifts, leaving the flock to decide what it can offer. The story follows their winding trip toward the child amid misunderstandings and comic observations.
