On the Block: Stories of Home

Edited by Ellen Oh, this anthology contains twelve connected short stories about young residents of one New York City apartment building. The stories follow diverse protagonists whose lives overlap through shared spaces, established friendships, and new connections. Lila is adjusting to a new home after immigrating from Trinidad; Yaniel’s interest in bridge-building involves many popsicles; and Emi visits the building where her aunt lives after moving from Japan. The collection concludes with a gathering for the whole building.
