Missing Jack
Rebecca Elliott
A young boy remembers his cat Jack as he slows down with age and then dies. The family buries Jack in the garden, and the boy’s mother suggests getting another cat, but he does not want one. Later he meets a kitten named Humphrey. Humphrey is unlike Jack, yet the boy comes to see that the new cat can be wonderful in a different way. The story follows the boy’s grief for his longtime animal companion and his gradual openness to a new pet.
