Just South of Home

In Warrenville, Georgia, Sarah and her cousin Janie struggle to get along after Janie comes from Chicago to stay with Sarah and her brother, Ellis. Janie disrupts Sarah’s astrobiology project, criticizes small-town life, and shoplifts. Taking a necklace at the remains of a Black church demolished by the Klan, she rouses Abner, a haint. With Ellis, Jasper, and local historian and conjurer Mrs. Whitney, the cousins must settle Abner’s spirit while concealing their efforts from Sarah’s strict grandmother.
