In the Footsteps of Crazy Horse

Jimmy McLean feels uneasy about his blue eyes, fair skin, light hair, and surname, especially when classmates tease him about being too white to be Lakota. During the summer, his grandfather takes him to places important in the life of Lakota warrior and leader Crazy Horse. Through his grandfather’s stories, Jimmy encounters Lakota perspectives on westward expansion, the Indian Wars, and the Battle of Little Bighorn. The journey helps him consider courage, survival, and his own identity.
