I Can Make This Promise

Twelve-year-old Edie is making a film with her friends Serenity and Amelia when they find a box in her attic containing photographs, letters, and diaries. The materials belonged to Edith, a Native woman who resembles Edie. As Edie reads them, she learns about Edith’s hopes of becoming an actress, the discrimination she faced in Hollywood, and her return home while expecting a child. Edie’s parents eventually reveal that Edith was her grandmother and that Edie’s mother was taken from her shortly after birth.
