Girl Mans Up

Penelope, known as Pen, is close to her childhood friend Colby and is out to him but not to her parents. In eleventh grade, Colby asks Pen to start conversations with girls he likes. When Pen and Blake become interested in each other, Pen begins to view Colby differently. She also supports Olivia, Colby’s former girlfriend, after learning that Olivia is pregnant. As Colby accuses Pen of disloyalty and questions her gender expression, Pen navigates romance, friendship, and tensions with her Portuguese immigrant-to-Canada parents.
