Eleven-year-old Ginny’s family expects to move from North Carolina to Maryland, but her army-doctor father is suddenly deployed to Afghanistan instead. Her outgoing older sister quickly connects with children in their new neighborhood, while Ginny struggles socially. Ginny loves maps and is disappointed when a local geography summer camp is cancelled, and her attempts to share that interest with neighborhood children fail. With her father able to video-call only sometimes, family tensions grow as her mother starts a new job.
