This historical account recounts a 1944 basketball game held in secret in Durham, North Carolina, in defiance of segregation laws. John McLendon, coach of the Eagles from North Carolina College for Negroes, arranged for five Eagles players to face Duke University Medical School’s team. The Eagles won 88–44 using a fast-break style. Afterwards, players from both teams joined a second game and met at the Eagles’ dormitory, agreeing to conceal the events to protect themselves and McLendon.
