Aiden Navarro looks forward to Boy Scout camp, where activities, friendships, and time away from an unhappy home offer relief before he transfers schools. He is Filipino and white, and racist and homophobic taunts from other campers become increasingly painful. Aiden has feelings for fellow camper Elias but struggles to acknowledge that he is gay within his Catholic faith. A counselor’s dismissal, a friend’s silence, and Elias’s withdrawal deepen his despair.
